Jack Rosser on Bayern Munich v Chelsea
It has been nearly 12 years since Bayern Munich lost a Champions League group stage game here so Chelsea have quite the task on their return to Europe’s top table.
The Club World Cup has given them huge competition, but this is the tournament where we will discover whether the title of World champions really means anything.
The teams are out!
Over at the Allianz Arena, the players of Bayern Munich and Chelsea have emerged to some noise!
Back in Europe’s stellar competition, the Blues are eager to flex their muscles as “the champions of the world.”
But standing in their way are the formidable force of Bayern, complete with masses of ex-Premier League talent, and spearheaded, of course, by Harry Kane.
We’ll also have goal updates from Anfield, the Parc des Princes, and the Johan Cruijff ArenA as the Champions League continues its first week proper of the season.
Here we go!
Full-time: Slavia Prague 2-2 Bodo/Glimt
Slavia Prague throw away two precious points on opening night of the Champions League.
A brace for Youssoupha Mbodji should have been enough, and 2-0 up after 75 minutes, they will wonder how this one got away.
Full credit to Bodo/Glimt, who failed to give up without a fight, and have a point to go home with.
Fet will no doubt be watching his strike back, one of the best hits you will see this week in the Champions League.
Full-time: Olympiacos 0-0 Pafos
The home side were unable to break down the stern champions of Cyprus, and have come up short in a must-win clash.
Olympiacos now travel to Barcelona and Arsenal, so will feel this is two points dropped.
For Pafos, this is a monster point, their first in Champions League history, and they more than earned it, it will feel like a point gained for them.
They somehow kept the Greek champions out playing with 10 for the better part of an hour.
Olympiacos 0-0 Pafos
90. Into added time here, and the hosts continue to press for the opening goal.
Pafos have only ventured into the opposition half twice in the last 20 minutes, with the Greek side pushing to find a winning on the opening day.
Slavia Prague 2-2 Bodo/Glimt
90. OUT OF THIS WORLD BY FET!
Helmersen misses a one-on-one chance just moments before, but the hosts fail to clear their lines.
The ball then falls to Fet on the volley, and the substitute hits the ball perfectly, with Stanek only able to tip the ball onto the underside of the crossbar, as it falls into the back of his net.
Simply stunning from Fet.
