Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Jesus Luzardo (SP – PHI) vs. BOS
Jesus Luzardo allowed 20 of the 52 earned runs he’s coughed up in 2025 in back-to-back starts on May 31 and June 5. The lefty has had a 2.79 ERA in his other 18 starts. According to FanGraphs, Luzardo also has a blistering 27.5 K%, 13.2 SwStr% and 29.8 CSW% in 2025, including his two ugly turns.
Luzardo’s matchup and betting info are mixed. The Red Sox are tied for third in wRC+ (113) with a 23.6 K% versus lefties this year and were tied for fourth in wRC+ (118) with a 22.0 K% in the previous 30 days. However, Boston is tied for 14th in wRC+ (97) with a 26.0 K% on the road in 2025. Finally, the Phillies are -154, but the game’s total is an unexciting 8.5 runs.
Lucas Giolito (SP – BOS) at PHI
Lucas Giolito had an up-and-down beginning to his 2025 campaign. Yet, he’s been on fire. Giolito has had the following stats in his last seven starts spanning 44 innings.
- 1.43 ERA
- 3.68 xFIP
- 3.70 SIERA
- 0.93 WHIP
- Five wins
- Six quality starts
- 7.1 BB%
- 25.4 K%
- 12.3 SwStr%
- 28.8 CSW%
The Phillies aren’t a pushover for Giolito. They also aren’t world-beaters, ranking tied for 11th in wRC+ (103) with a 20.2 K% versus righties and tied for fifth in wRC+ (116) with a 20.0 K% at home this year. The Phillies were also only tied for 16th in wRC+ (99) with a 22.6 K% in the previous 30 days. On tonight’s small DFS slate, gamers can use opposing starting pitchers in the same lineup on DraftKings. Both are also appealing picks on FanDuel’s single-pitcher platform.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
It’s always a bit of a guessing game to project New York’s stacked lineup. However, it would be foolish of them not to load up the lineup with lefties against Chris Bassitt tonight. The veteran righty has held 222 right-handed batters to a .280 wOBA this year. Yet, the 269 left-handed batters he’s faced have roughed him up for a .370 wOBA. New York’s lefty-laden lineup should crush Bassitt.
- Home (Progressive Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.5 Runs/CLE -120
Zach Eflin has struggled mightily this year, even accounting for better ERA estimators than his putrid 5.95 ERA in 12 starts. Eflin’s 4.26 xERA, 4.29 xFIP and 4.42 SIERA shouldn’t dissuade gamers from stacking the Guardians against Eflin. The veteran hurler has also had a significant homer problem, yielding 2.32 HR/9 in 2025. Finally, while he’s held righties to a .295 wOBA this year, lefties have teed off for a .452 wOBA.
Core Studs
- Aaron Judge has had a .435 OBP, .348 ISO and 200 wRC+ against righties since 2023.
- Ben Rice has crushed 15 homers with 45 runs, 32 RBIs, three stolen bases, a .327 OBP, .239 ISO, .347 wOBA and 124 wRC+ in 316 plate appearances this season.
- Jose Ramirez has ripped 21 round-trippers with 61 runs, 56 RBIs, 30 stolen bases, a .370 OBP, .234 ISO, .374 wOBA and 143 wRC+ in 414 plate appearances this year.
Value Plays/Punts
- Kyle Manzardo has slugged 16 homers with 28 runs, 40 RBIs, one stolen base, a .295 OBP, .231 ISO, .320 wOBA and 105 wRC+ in 312 plate appearances this season.
- Jasson Dominguez has swatted 13 homers with a .346 OBP, .202 ISO, .353 wOBA and 128 wRC+ in 298 plate appearances against righties since 2023.
- Daniel Schneemann is left-handed, punt-salaried exposure to Eflin. He has nine homers, 29 runs, 26 RBIs, seven stolen bases, a .302 OBP, .165 ISO, .301 wOBA and 92 wRC+ in 253 plate appearances this year. Obviously, a sub-100 wRC+ isn’t ideal. Nevertheless, Schneemann isn’t a trainwreck at the plate, making him a compelling punt-salaried selection against Eflin.
