UFC 318 standout Ateba Gautier didn’t need to wait long to get his next Octagon assignment.
On a night headlined by Dustin Poirier‘s retirement, UFC 318 featured plenty of bright young stars looking to make a name for themselves under a massive spotlight. UFC middleweight Ateba Gautier proved Francis Ngannou comparisons correct with a gruesome knockout during the UFC 318 prelims.
Gautier, a Dana White’s Contender Series alum, knocked out Robert Valentin with a flurry of punches in the first round. He remains unbeaten in his UFC tenure through two fights, with both matchups finishing inside the first round.
Just hours after the biggest win of his career, Gautier already has a date and location for his next UFC fight against another blossoming star.

Ateba Gautier set for quick turnaround just days after UFC 318 knockout
As reported by MMA journalist Leo Guimaraes, Gautier will reportedly face fellow DWCS alum Ozzy Diaz at UFC 320 on October 4th in Las Vegas. As of this writing, the UFC hasn’t announced the Gautier matchup as the UFC 320 card remains under construction.
Gautier raised eyebrows with a brutal knee knockout in his UFC debut earlier this year in Mexico City, before the knockout of Valentin last Saturday. Gautier earned a UFC contract by knocking out Yura Naito on DWCS last year.
Gautier will face an intriguing challenge in Diaz, who earned his first UFC victory over Djorden Santos earlier this year at UFC 313. Diaz lost in his short-notice promotional debut last November against Mingyang Zhang by first-round knockout.
Gautier vs. Diaz adds to an intriguing card at UFC 320, marking the promotion’s pay-per-view return to Las Vegas. UFC CEO Dana White announced the top three fights of the card earlier this week during a recent Instagram live stream.

The UFC 320 co-main event features UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili‘s third scheduled booking of the year against surging contender Cory Sandhagen. Dvalishvili most recently submitted Sean O’Malley at UFC 316 last month.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka will also return at UFC 320 against Khalil Rountree Jr. in a No. 1 contender bout. The full UFC 320 card is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
