SAN DIEGO — Juan Soto departed the New York Mets’ Tuesday night game against the San Diego Padres in the fourth inning with a foot contusion, suffered when he fouled a pitch off his left foot.
After Soto fouled an 0-2 slider from San Diego starter Ryan Bergert off the foot, he hopped halfway down the first-base line on his right leg before falling to the turf.
After trainer Joe Golia checked on Soto, he stayed in the game and hit the ball hard to the right side, only to be robbed by Jake Cronenworth’s terrific diving stop. When the Mets came out for defense in the bottom of the inning, Tyrone Taylor had replaced Soto.
Soto has started all but one game this season for the Mets.
