Cheick Kongo is set to return to combat sports (kind of) for the first time in three years.

The MMA legend hasn’t fought since being outpointed by Ryan Bader at Bellator 280 in May 2022.

At 50 years old, many assumed that the UFC veteran had quietly retired after an iconic 46-fight career.

However, it was recently revealed that Cheick Kongo will debut in a new sport on August 1.

Cheick Kongo and Hector Lombard set for pillow fight

Hector Lombard was named as Cheick Kongo’s opponent for his Pillow Fight Championship debut.

The 49-fight veteran fought some of the biggest names in the UFC and Bellator before seemingly calling it quits in November 2023.

This is the BIG one,” Pillow Fight Championship wrote alongside a Kongo vs. Lombard fight poster.

“MMA Legends @kongo4real and @hectorlombard will face off in a historic ‘Hush Super Fight’ LIVE during @hushblankets Presents Pillow Fight Championship this Friday, Aug. 1, when ESPN2 becomes ESPN8: The Ocho LIVE at 10 PM EST from @disneyparks and @espn Wide World of Sports. 📺🔥🚀🥊

    “DO. NOT. MISS. THIS.”

What are the rules for Pillow Fight Championship?

Pillow Fight Championship bouts take place over three rounds, each lasting just 90 seconds, with a one-minute rest period between rounds.

The fights are scored by judges who will award one point for each headshot. You’d get three points for a spinning headshot. Ultimately, the aim for competitors is to drop their opponent, which will earn them five points.

Points are not awarded for any shots that land below the neck to encourage fan-friendly fights.

One point is given at the end of each round for the fighter who displayed the most showmanship.

You can’t push or charge your opponent, and attempting to grab their pillow is strictly prohibited.
