Weekly DFS is not a novel concept for fantasy football, but combining it with best ball gives DraftBattle a unique proposition. Eight teams assure that all users will have 11 rounds of selections they are happy with (even during the byes), and the best ball format (nine players ‘start’ and accrue points) will help to eliminate the guesswork. DraftBattle is here to stay, so let’s break down their game a little further.
What is DraftBattle?
Eight teams, 11 rounds, nine man rosters
These are all self-explanatory, and we touched on them briefly above, but the quality of roster options in an eight team contest versus a 10 or a 12 team is significant. This will especially be true during the heavy byes. Best ball in weekly DFS helps to insulate from ‘bad luck’ in terms of snap count or injury, and helps to level the playing field a bit in a space where luck is usually just as, if not more important, than drafting skill. There are 11 rounds in the snake draft with a 45 second timer. Two missed picks will put your team on autopick.Â
Superflex
Superflex is a concept that has been around for decades and allows fantasy managers to put a quarterback in one of the flex spots. Superflex continues to increase in popularity, but single QB or 1QB remains the dominant league format. Superflex presents a new layer of strategy and, at the same time, helps to increase the importance of the quarterback position. Waiting on a QB, a tried-and-true strategy in 1QB, is not as effective when all teams will be drafting two or maybe even three quarterbacks.Â
The Contests
There are three levels of entry to choose from $20, $50, and $100. Users can join as many contests as they like, but are allowed only one entry per unique contest. This means you can join multiple drafts at the $20 or $100 price point, but can only have one team in an individual contest. Payouts for $100 contest are $500 to first, $200 to second. For the $50 contest, first place wins $250, while second place gets $100. For the $20 price point, it is winner takes all, with first place winning $125. Drafts will take place Monday to Wednesday from 9 am PST to 10 pm PST and Thursday from 6 am to 3 pm.
