Smash Spots
Hunter Brown (SP – HOU) vs. COL
Hunter Brown is having a dominant season, putting up a 2.36 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with 46 walks and 170 strikeouts in 149 innings. Up next is a smash spot at home against the lowly Rockies.
Framber Valdez (SP – HOU) vs. COL
Framber Valdez has hit a rough patch lately, allowing a combined 19 earned runs in his last four starts, spanning 23.1 innings. However, look for the crafty veteran to get back on track versus the Rockies.
Sonny Gray (SP – STL) vs. PIT
Sonny Gray has allowed a combined nine earned runs in his last two turns, but this looks like a bounce-back spot against the Pirates, who have one of the worst lineups in baseball.
Risky Starts
Freddy Peralta (SP – MIL) @ TOR
Freddy Peralta is in a tough matchup on the road against a pesky Blue Jays lineup that strikes out at one of the lowest rates in baseball and works up pitch counts, resulting in shorter outings.
MacKenzie Gore (SP – WSH) @ NYY
MacKenzie Gore has been struggling in the second half, so it’s hard to feel comfortable firing him up at Yankee Stadium against the Bronx Bombers, who are fighting for a Wild Card spot.
Cade Horton (SP – CHC) @ COL
Cade Horton has been on an incredible run lately, allowing a combined two earned runs in his last seven starts, spanning 37 innings. However, Coors Field can get the best of any pitcher, so we need to temper our expectations.
Two-Start Pitchers
Noah Cameron (SP – KC) @ CWS, vs. DET
Noah Cameron has been a nice surprise for the Royals this season, posting a 2.53 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 103 innings. Look for a quality start against the lowly White Sox, followed by a tougher matchup against the Tigers.
Cam Schlittler (SP – NYY) vs. WSH, @ CWS
Cam Schlittler has been in a good rhythm lately, giving up two earned runs or fewer in four consecutive starts. This was highlighted by a one-hitter against the Rays. Look for him to keep it rolling versus the Nationals and White Sox.
Sean Manaea (SP – NYM) vs. PHI, vs. MIA
Sean Manaea opens up his two-start week in a tough matchup against the Phillies, but we should see a quality outing with strikeout upside and a good chance at getting a win against the Marlins.
