Monday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Tarik Skubal (SP – DET) at ATH
Tarik Skubal is having another Cy Young Award-caliber season after winning the hardware last year. He’s also a road warrior. According to FanGraphs, Skubal has a 2.60 ERA, 2.57 xFIP, 0.93 WHIP, 3.4 BB% and 31.2 K% in 159 innings on the road since last season.
Skubal’s matchup against the Athletics isn’t ideal, but it’s not terrifying. The Athletics are ninth in wRC+ (104) with a 23.5 K% versus lefties and tied for 11th in wRC+ (106) with a 21.5 K% at home in 2025. Skubal’s betting info is nifty, with the Tigers listed as commanding -210 favorites, reducing concerns about the game’s total sitting at 8.5 runs.
Cristopher Sanchez (SP – PHI) at NYM
Cristopher Sanchez is an intriguing pivot from Skubal in GPPs, albeit with a challenging matchup. The Mets are 13th in wRC+ (97) with a 21.9 K% versus lefties and tied for fourth in wRC+ (117) with a 20.8 K% at home this year. Nevertheless, the Phillies are -125 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.0 runs.
Sanchez is also talented enough to overcome the matchup. The lefty has had the following stats in his previous five starts spanning 33 innings.
- 2.73 ERA
- 2.92 xFIP
- 3.20 SIERA
- 1.12 WHIP
- Two wins
- Four quality starts
- 4.4 BB%
- 25.9 K%
- 13.5 SwStr%
- 31.0 CSW%
- 112 stuff+
- 106 location+
- 120 pitching+
Sanchez has a GPP-friendly ceiling, and his roster percentage should be suppressed by his salary’s proximity to Skubal’s salary.
Max Scherzer (SP – TOR) vs. MIN
Max Scherzer has enjoyed some good luck lately. In the veteran righty’s previous five starts spanning 32 innings, he had a 2.25 ERA, which was markedly lower than his 4.64 xFIP and 4.37 SIERA. Still, in those turns, Mad Max had a 0.94 WHIP, 5.6 BB%, 22.4 K%, three wins, five quality starts, 95 stuff+, 106 location+ and 102 pitching+. Scherzer’s good fortune should continue for another turn in a plus matchup.
The Twins are tied for 20th in wRC+ (99) with a 21.9 K% versus righties and tied for 23rd in wRC+ (92) with a 23.3 K% on the road this season. Minnesota was also tied for 24th in wRC+ (88) with a 22.0 K% in the previous 30 days. As a result, the Blue Jays are -140 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.0 runs. Scherzer is an ideal SP2 in all game types at DraftKings and a nifty GPP pick at FanDuel.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Eduardo Rodriguez has struggled this season, and he hasn’t shown signs of turning it around to close out the regular season. In his previous five starts, E-Rod has had a 5.10 ERA, 5.18 xFIP, 5.23 SIERA, 1.50 WHIP, 10.6 BB% and 16.7 K%. In addition, the veteran lefty has yielded a .404 wOBA to 101 left-handed batters and a .356 wOBA to 434 right-handed batters this season. The Brewers can rough him up tonight.
- Home (Yankee Stadium)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 9.0 Runs/NYY -225
Brad Lord has split his time between Washington’s bullpen and rotation this year. Moreover, he hasn’t embarrassed himself as a starter, with a 3.90 ERA, 3.86 xFIP, 4.23 SIERA and 1.30 WHIP in a dozen starts. Nevertheless, his SIERA and modest 17.7 K% in starts don’t bode well for a matchup against New York’s potent lineup. Finally, Washington’s bullpen is MLB’s worst, with an MLB-high 5.66 ERA this year.

He hasn’t enjoyed that degree of success in the Majors. Nevertheless, Meidroth is a viable punt with the platoon advantage tonight.
