RUBEN AMORIM admits there are times when he wants to quit Manchester United – but says he is not ready to walk away.

The Red Devils boss left fans scratching his head with his post match comments after the Carabao Cup exit at Grimsby.

He said the players had ‘spoken loudly’ about what they want at Blundell Park and said he will speak to his bosses in the international break.

But as he looked ahead to tomorrow’s clash with Burnley, he was in jovial mood and said emotions get the better of him after a bad result.

He said he needs to learn his lesson but revealed his passion sometimes gets the better of him.

Amorim said: “To be really honest with you guys, every time that we have or have in the future after one defeat like that, I’m going to be like that.

“I’m going to say that sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to defend my players.

“Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years.

“So, again, I need to improve on that. It’s going to be hard. But now I’m good with the next one.”

Amorim was asked if he will hold conversations with the United hierarchy during the international break – as he suggested at Blundell Park.

He said he is in regular contact with director of football Jason Wilcox – as well as chief exec Omar Berrada and even owner Jim Ratcliffe – go on all the time.

The former Sporting Lisbon coach added: “I have all these conversations with him.

“I’m just focused on this game and I need to live this day by day. I am understanding that. And I’m going to be like that all the time. So prepare yourself.”

Amorim said the passion he showed after the defeat to the League Two side that his emotions tend to get the better of him.

He wants people to understand this is how he is, saying: “This is my way of doing things and I’m going to be like that.

“And I felt that in that moment I was so frustrated and annoyed.

“And I know, again, that you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more constant, to be more calm. I’m not going to be like that.

“So I’m trying to accept that and I’m going to be who I am. That’s why I have the passion that I have.

“In that moment I was really upset and really disappointed because I felt that we had a very good pre-season, we were playing better, we were being consistent in the way we played.

“We played badly 30 minutes against Fulham. And then that kind of performance, I was really disappointed with everything.

“But now it’s a new game and I’m focused on the next one.

“I have all these conversations with him. I’m just focused on this game and I need to live this day by day.

“I am understanding that. And I’m going to be like that all the time. So prepare yourself.”
