Finding good starting pitchers can be a weekly struggle. I aim to solve this headache during this season by finding the best pitchers, every week, who are on most waiver wires. I use the FantasyPros streaming pitchers tool to find league roster percentage information.
First, let’s take a look at last week’s picks:
- Cam Schlittler (vs. WSH): 6.0 Innings, 8 Strikeouts, 0 Earned Runs, 4 Hits, 3 Walks (Win)
- Jameson Taillon (@LAA): 5.0 Innings, 3 Strikeouts, 1 Earned Run, 3 Hits, 0 Walks (Win)
- Cade Cavalli (@NYY): 2.1 Innings, 4 Strikeouts, 7 Earned Runs, 8 Hits, 1 Walk (Loss)
- Dean Kremer (@BOS): 3.0 Innings, 1 Strikeout, 7 Earned Runs, 9 Hits, 2 Walks (Loss)
Total: 16.1 Innings, 16 Strikeouts, 15 Earned Runs, 24 Hits, 6 Walks (2-2)
Well. These results were not what we wanted to see. Cade Cavalli and Dean Kremer ruined the momentum we gathered from Cam Schlittler and Jameson Taillon earlier in the week. The good news is, some of my most optimistic picks are yet to pitch this week.
Michael McGreevy against the Reds and Dustin May against the Pirates should ideally bring this week together. We will target safer streaming options for this first week of the fantasy playoffs.
Without further delay, below are my picks for pitchers to stream during Week 23, from Monday, September 1st through Sunday, September 8th.
Fantasy Baseball Streaming Pitchers
Monday, September 1st
Kyle Bradish (SP – BAL) @SD | 11% Rostered
Kyle Bradish is way too good to be on the waiver wire. It is completely possible you forgot Bradish existed. The Orioles star had not pitched since June 2024, when he had to undergo dreaded elbow surgery.
Rust was not evident for Bradish in his return. He tossed six innings of two-run ball in his 2025 debut, striking out 10 Red Sox batters. Grab Bradish for the playoffs and feel free to start him against good teams, even the Padres.
Alternative: Taijuan Walker (SP – PHI) @MIL | 5% Rostered
Tuesday, September 2nd
Emmet Sheehan (SP – LAD) @PIT | 10% Rostered
Emmet Sheehan may be one of the best streaming options this week. The Dodgers have done it yet again. They have developed a good one. Sheehan has a 3.56 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP this season, striking out 54 batters across 48.0 innings.
I absolutely love Sheehan against the Pirates, who have an MLB-worst team OPS of .658. In addition, Sheehan carries great momentum into this start after striking out 10 Reds across seven scoreless innings on August 25th.
Alternative: Cade Cavalli (SP – WSH) vs. MIA | 3% Rostered
Wednesday, September 3rd
Dustin May (SP – BOS) vs. CLE | 16% Rostered
Dustin May is a decent pitcher going against a bad offense. May is facing the Guardians, who have the second-worst team OPS of .662. While May has had his fair share of struggles this season, earning a rough 4.79 ERA, he should find success against a weak Guardians offense.
Alternative: Simeon Woods Richardson (SP – MIN) vs. CWS | 1% Rostered
Thursday, September 4th
Zebby Matthews (SP – MIN0 vs. CWS | 4% Rostered
Zebby Matthews gets strikeouts. Yes, he has an ERA of 5.06 and a WHIP of 1.48. These sky-high numbers are hard to look beyond, but a K/9 ratio of 11.4 makes it much easier to roster Matthews.
The 25-year-old is an intriguing streaming option against the White Sox, who are 48-87 and have a measly team OPS of .676. I strongly recommend streaming Matthews in points formats where strikeouts have extra value.
Alternative: Cristian Javier (SP – HOU) vs. NYY | 8% Rostered
Friday, September 5th
Ian Seymour (SP – TB) vs. CLE | 1% Rostered
Ian Seymour caught the attention of fantasy managers when he struck out eight Guardians across five scoreless innings for his first-ever MLB start. The rookie has moved from the bullpen to the rotation during these final weeks of the season, and he has serious potential.
Seymour has a 3.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 10.8 K/9 ratio this season in 28.1 innings. Consider streaming the lefty for his rematch against the Guardians.
Alternative: Michael McGreevy (SP – STL) vs. SF | 5% Rostered
Saturday, September 6th
Johan Oviedo (SP – PIT) vs. MIL | 1% Rostered
Johan Oviedo is seemingly the best streaming option on a day without many good options. Oviedo has done well since returning to the Majors after being sidelined during Tommy John surgery recovery. He has struck out 14 and allowed four runs in 10 innings so far.
Oviedo’s three outings are a tiny sample size, and his career 4.60 ERA and 8.0 K/9 ratio reflect more of who he is. Regardless, Oviedo is usually a decent streaming option, and he should be serviceable against the Brewers.
Alternative: Brad Lord (SP – WSH) @CHC | 1% Rostered
Sunday, September 7th
Charlie Morton (SP – DET) vs. CWS | 10% Rostered
Charlie Morton is settling down as a Tiger. The trade deadline piece has allowed seven runs throughout his most recent three starts in 17 innings. While the earned runs are not great, Morton has struck out 20 batters in this period.
The 41-year-old has fanned an impressive 137 batters in his 128.2 innings this season. Feel comfortable streaming Morton as a source for strikeouts and limited runs against the 48-87 White Sox.
Alternative: Mike Burrows (SP – PIT) vs. MIL | 3% Rostered
