Fantasy Football Burning Questions
Expectations for Jaxson Dart?
It only took three weeks of the Russell Wilson experience for the Giants to make a change under center, naming first-round rookie (No. 25 overall) Jaxson Dart as the starter. Dart has yet to attempt a pass in the regular season, but he’s already been involved in the run game, handling three carries on only six snaps.
Although it is a small sample, Dart was lethal with his legs as a starter in the preseason, rushing six times on 75 snaps for 52 yards and a score, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. As a passer, Dart completed 32 out of 47 dropbacks (68.1% completion rate), throwing for 372 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions, finishing with a 113.1 quarterback passer rating.
Are Jordan Mason and Carson Wentz the Long-Term Answers in Minnesota?
The Vikings were short-handed coming into Sunday, missing multiple starters in Aaron Jones and J.J. McCarthy, but showed no signs of any limitations, dismantling the Bengals 48-10 in a one-sided beatdown. The defense played a critical role in Minnesota’s success, creating four turnovers in the first half alone. On offense, Jordan Mason made the most of his opportunity without Jones, handling 16 carries for 116 yards (7.3 yards per carry) and a pair of scores, trailing only David Montgomery (151) for second on the week in rushing yards.
Although he wasn’t asked to do much, Carson Wentz also fared well in his debut as the starter, completing 70% of his passes on 20 dropbacks, throwing for 172 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions, finishing with a 129.8 quarterback passer rating before getting pulled in the fourth quarter.
Post game, head coach Kevin O’Connell was non-committal when asked if McCarthy would 100% be the starter once healthy, stating:
“First and foremost, he’s got to get healthy. And then, I don’t think it’s one of those things where it’s, hey, he’s healthy the night before a game, we’re going to throw him out there and say, ‘Hey, go figure it out’ type of thing.”
Who is Playing for the Commanders?
The Commanders dominated the Raiders 41-24 without Jayden Daniels, starting 2-0 at home in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2008-2009. The offense didn’t look much different with Marcus Mariota under center, who showed out against his former team, completing 71.4% of his dropbacks (14-of-21) for 207 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions, while also tacking on 40 yards and a score on the ground.
Terry McLaurin led Washington in receiving, seeing a team-high 19.1% target share and catching three balls on four targets for 74 yards. Unfortunately, when it finally looked like McLaurin was getting back on track, he suffered a core injury late in the game, putting his status in doubt for Week 5. Seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt is also listed as questionable after missing Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury. Although Daniels returned to practice in a limited capacity, the decision is ultimately up to the doctors and the team, who may opt to play it safe and hold out the second-year quarterback one more week.
