The battle for the true AL East titan starts here? The Toronto Blue Jays were the deserving AL East champ in the regular season and it was their first division title since 2015. They had the same 94-68 record as the Yankees — tied for the best record in the AL — but won the division based on winning the season series, eight games to five.Â
With that tiebreaker came the bye. The Jays rested up this past week while the Yankees had to battle the Red Sox in a tough three-game series in the Bronx. They prevailed, though, and we get to see a Yankees-Blue Jays playoff series. If that sounds rare to you, it is. In fact, this is the first-ever playoff meeting between the two AL East foes.Â
Game 1 was more tense than the final 10-1 score would lead you to believe, but the Blue Jays took that rest and blew the Yankees away Saturday.

Game 2 storylines
Yankees: After a blowout loss in Game 1 and a Luis Gil start that lasted just 2 ⅔, the Yankees are looking for not just dominance but also length out of Max Fried. Their offensive vanish act from the Wild Card Series continued Saturday too and they could really do with their big sluggers getting into the game.
Blue Jays: Rookie Trey Yesavage gets the ball for the Blue Jays in what will be just the fourth start of his major-league career. Toronto manager John Schneider stressed wanting to ease him into the spotlight by giving him a start in front of the home crowd, but can they dream even bigger?
