CHICAGO — New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart exited the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Bears with a concussion. Veteran Russell Wilson has replaced him for the Giants at QB.
Dart headed to the blue medical tent at the start of the fourth quarter, with the rookie not taking a snap in the fourth. He played New York’s two offensive snaps of the Giants’ final offensive possession of the third quarter.
Dart’s professional career has just started, but the rookie has already been evaluated for concussions in three regular-season games and one preseason game. This Chicago contest is only Dart’s seventh career start.
Giants coach Brian Daboll and fellow rookie Cam Skattebo were fined earlier this season for violating the league’s concussion protocol when they both entered the blue medical tent while he was undergoing a concussion check during New York’s Week 6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dart wasn’t listed on the Giants’ lengthy injury report entering Sunday’s game, but it’s hard to imagine he feels “good” after the beating he’s taken in six previous starts. He has already been on the injury report with hamstring and ankle injuries, plus the three in-game concussion evaluations that he passed.
Before exiting Sunday, Dart played a strong game, excluding one lost fumble. Dart completed 19-of-29 passes for 242 yards, and he had rushed six times for 66 yards and two touchdowns. It was Dart’s fifth straight game with a rushing touchdown. Despite the weather, Dart looked calm, confident and decisive. The forced fumble came on a big hit from behind, which Dart lost control of. Dart also nearly had an end zone interception, but wide receiver Gunner Olszewski punched the ball out to save Dart’s stat line and the Giants’ second-quarter drive.
