Football fans had this Week 17 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills circled on their calendar since the NFL schedule was released, and the teams are both jockeying for postseason positioning ahead of their showdown at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, December 28.

The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t shown enough on offense against the best teams on their schedule to cover the number against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. This is also a potential letdown spot for Philly after clinching a postseason berth in Week 16.
There are obvious shortcomings on Buffalo’s roster, but the Bills have consistently put points on the board, and Josh Allen is the superior quarterback.Â
Plus, the Bills have rattled off four consecutive wins and are 6-1 at Highmark Stadium.
I also expect this spread to move in Buffalo’s direction, so landing the Bills below the key number of -3 is an early week gift during the season of giving.Â
The Eagles didn’t pull away from the Washington Commanders in Week 16 until third-string QB Josh Johnson entered the game, and Philly ranked 27th in offensive DVOA while generating the ninth-lowest EPA per play over the prior six weeks.

We’re landing a low total because the early weather forecast is messy for upstate New York on Sunday. And, even with the highlighted shortcomings of the Philadelphia offense, the weapons are in place to move the ball and score against Buffalo.
The Bills ranked 26th in defensive DVOA while allowing the 10th-highest DVOA from Week 10 through 15, and just allowed the offensively challenged Cleveland Browns to put up 20 on Sunday, after all.
Of course, predicting the weather seven days in advance is a roll of the dice, and nasty conditions aren’t a guarantee that scoring will be compromised.
