Sky Sports: Borussia Dortmund considering move to sign Man City star

Borussia Dortmund Considering Move to Sign Man City Forward

Borussia Dortmund admire Oscar Bobb, but any January move remains conditional, and far from done, according to a report from Sky Sports.

City’s approach feels pragmatic. Bobb has obvious quality, but minutes in a title chasing squad can be scarce, and a well placed loan can sharpen his decision making in the final third, while keeping him within a clear development plan.

Dortmund interest remains real, timeline stays uncertain

Sky’s report states, “Borussia Dortmund have held a long-term interest in Manchester City attacker Oscar Bobb.” That aligns with Dortmund’s wider recruitment profile, they back high ceiling young attackers and give them meaningful game time. It also underlines that this is not a sudden window rumour, it has been on their radar for a while.

There is also a reminder that Dortmund tried before, “The Bundesliga club rate the player very highly and wanted to sign him last summer, but City blocked it.” From City’s perspective, that reads like a club protecting an asset and a pathway, especially if Bobb was seen as close to first team involvement.

January talks, but no agreement yet

Sky add, “ahead of the January window, there have been talks between Dortmund and the player’s side, but nothing concrete yet.” That distinction matters. Player side conversations can be exploratory, a sense check on role, minutes, and the environment, rather than a signal that clubs have agreed terms.

City’s stance is also spelled out, “City are prepared to loan out Bobb next month so he can gain playing experience.” For a youngster, that line is significant, it suggests the club will listen if the sporting case is strong, and if the destination suits the football.

Sky also temper the loudest claims, “the deal is not as close to completion as some media reports have suggested.” In plain terms, expect noise, and treat certainty with caution until clubs formally align on a structure.

    Exits dictate feasibility at Dortmund

The hinge point is in the final detail, “Dortmund sources say a January deal for Bobb is rather unlikely and would only be possible if Julien Duranville or Cole Campbell were to leave.” Dortmund’s squad arithmetic will decide the opportunity, because a loan only works for City if Bobb is set up to play, not parked behind established options.

If those exits do not happen, the more realistic outcome may be a different loan destination, or a plan to keep Bobb in Manchester with tailored minutes, and continued training exposure under elite coaching.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

As a Manchester City supporter, this update is frustrating in a familiar way. We keep hearing that young talents need minutes, then the pathway gets crowded, and the solution becomes another loan. Bobb is not a project in a vacuum, he is one of the few academy graduates who looks ready to influence Premier League games with his touch and tempo.

Man City considering Bobb’s game time makes sense, but it also feels like an admission that the squad has become too bloated for its own good. If Dortmund can only move if players leave, then Bobb’s playing time is at the mercy of someone else’s business. That is not ideal for City, and it is not ideal for the player.

Supporters want clarity. Either trust him with more minutes in domestic cups and selected league fixtures, or choose a loan where he starts every week. Anything in between risks stalling momentum, and City cannot afford to waste another season of a rare, homegrown attacker. With injuries and rotation always looming, keeping Bobb involved could also help City avoid over relying on established stars.
