Is Dana White right to block Jon Jones vs Alex Pereira? The UFC boss stands firm on ‘Bones’ assessment

Despite the combat sports world clamouring for a super fight between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira, UFC boss Dana White has seemingly put his foot down.

After Alex Pereira reclaimed his UFC light heavyweight title in his rematch against Magomed Ankalaev this past October, he immediately made his desired next move known.

‘Poatan’ called for a heavyweight super fight against Jon Jones, despite the fact that the 38-year-old announced his retirement from the sport after turning down a title unification fight against Tom Aspinall.

Of course in typical Jones fashion, he also relished at the idea of a super fight with Pereira, and the pair began to target the promotion’s upcoming event at the White House in June.

But their plans have now seemingly taken a big turn.

Who should Alex Pereira fight next?

Should he defend the light-heavyweight title, or do you want to see him make an historic move up to heavyweight?

Dana White blocks Jones vs Pereira super fight, is he right to do so?

The Brazilian champion recently shed some light on his recent talks with the UFC brass and Dana White.

And unfortunately for the fans, it wasn’t exactly promising news as the champion claimed that he won’t be featured on the UFC White House event.

Jones vs Pereira went on to take an even bigger hit and possibly its final hit this Thursday when Jones stated that White isn’t interested in the fight.

White isn’t interested in possibly ‘the biggest fight in human history’ (according to Joe Rogan)?

I can’t say I blame him! Why should Jones return in 2026 for one of the biggest fights in the sport’s history after everything he has done in the past few years.

Not even his pitfalls outside of the Octagon, but his sheer refusal to fight Aspinall, despite having accepted the offer, should mean he never fights under the UFC banner ever again. UNLESS…

Unless ‘Bones’ agrees to fight Aspinall (if he successfully defends his title in a likely rematch against Ciryl Gane) then he shouldn’t be allowed to fight anyone.

And for fans who will claim ‘it’s now or never’, if both Pereira and Jones aren’t good enough to pick up wins against other fighters first, then maybe they’re not as special as they are deemed to be.

People will argue that Jones and Pereira can fight without a title attached. But you and me both know, that’s not gonna happen. I doubt Jones’ fiery competitiveness will allow him to fight without a title being on the line.

Listen, White gets a lot of criticism, and rightly so sometimes. But his stance on this fight between Jones and Pereira is absolutely as it should be.

It’s about time Jones suffers the consequences of his actions.

Is Dana White to block a potential Jon Jones vs Alex Pereira fight?

    Will Jon Jones stay retired?

With Jones having peeled the curtain back on potential recent talks regarding the super fight, questions have arisen whether the consensus GOAT will ever fight again.

At this point, the 38-year-old continues to make a lot of money outside of fighting, and with him now spending a lot of time with Dirty Boxing, I find it hard to believe he ever fights again.

Could we see Jones compete in a different combat sport? Absolutely. And Daniel Cormier’s recent offer of a wrestling match may tickle his fancy.
