Waldo Cortes-Acosta believes he could earn a spot on the UFC White House card with a win over Derrick Lewis.
It’s safe to say that few fighters are as in-form right now as Waldo Cortes-Acosta, especially amongst heavyweight contenders. In 2025 alone, he was able to put together a 4-1 record, which included two quickfire wins in November over Ante Delija and Shamil Gaziev.

As we look ahead to the future, it certainly seems like Cortes-Acosta has as good a case as any for a world title shot – especially if he goes in there and knocks out Derrick Lewis when the two lock horns at UFC 324 on Saturday night. Of course, doing such a thing against someone like Lewis is easier said than done.
In a recent pre-fight media scrum, Cortes-Acosta had the following to say about the fight and the possibility of potentially even fighting on the UFC White House card in the summer.
Cortes-Acosta looks ahead to UFC White House
“I’m a person like, I’m training hard every time,” Cortes-Acosta said. “For Derrick Lewis, when he started, I’d barely been training MMA. I followed him so much because he’s a heavyweight, too, like me. He was one of my favorite fighters before until now, too, let me tell you. This Saturday, one day I was thinking, one day you will be fighting with him, and look at now. This is real, and next Saturday, Jan. 24, it will be happening. It’s amazing for me.”
“I want to fight at the White House,” Cortes-Acosta said. “Latino America, everybody, we support it. More clout, so people can see one Latino fighting at the White House is amazing.”
“It’s possible (a title shot),” Cortes-Acosta said. “I’d be available for the title shot or interim shot, interim title. Any fight the UFC can put on there, I’ll be fighting, but I want to fight.”
