Diego Lopes won’t need to get surgery after initially fearing he had broken both his feet in his featherweight title rematch.

The Brazilian had a difficult afternoon in Sydney as he was comprehensively defeated by the legendary Alexander Volkanovski in the pair’s rematch at UFC 325. By the time he was leaving the octagon, the judges had awarded all five rounds to his rival, and he was heading to the hospital.

Where does Diego Lopes go after his loss at UFC 325?

At first, it looked like disaster for Lopes as he feared a horror injury had occurred. But it now seems that he is simply going to have to walk around in a boot for the foreseeable future and won’t need to go under the knife.

Diego Lopes avoids surgery after gruesome injury at UFC 325

Following his defeat to Alexander Volkanovski on Sunday afternoon, Diego Lopes was rushed to hospital where he was examined for severe injuries. And it seemed as though it might be the worst news possible as he initially was diagnosed with two broken feet before getting out of the arena.

Luckily, that wasn’t the case, with Lopes updating fans from his hospital bed on Instagram this evening. He shared a series of photos from fight week with the caption “That’s life,” as well as a string of Instagram stories.

🚨 Diego Lopes provides an update on his foot injury:
“Everything is fine. The initial diagnosis at arena was that I might have broken both feet.
We went to the hospital, they ran tests, and everything was fine. Just some fractures in both feet, but surgery isn't necessary.… https://t.co/Em6t742we7 pic.twitter.com/Wyorp38Q0N

There, he showed off his brutally injured feet and wrote in more detail: “Everything is fine. The initial diagnosis at Arena was that I might have broken both feet.

“We went to the hospital, they ran tests, and everything was fine-just some fractures in both feet, but surgery isn’t necessary. I’ll be using boots and crutches for a few weeks.”

This followed a statement from his manager Jason House, who had tagged a photo hours earlier with the caption “Looks like we broke both feet”.

Underneath that photo, he wrote: “Some nights you’re at the afterparty, some nights you’re at the ER [Emergency Room]. But every morning I give thanks for the opportunity to live this life with my best friends.”
