The UFC was in London, England, on Saturday for the UFC London fight night card. In the main event, undefeated featherweight contenders threw down as Movsar Evloev took on Lerone Murphy.
Entering the bout, Evloev was 19-0 and coming off a decision win over Aljamain Sterling. Murphy, meanwhile, was 17-0-1 and coming off a KO win over Aaron Pico.
In the end, it was Evloev who edged out a majority decision win in a thrilling fight, which many thought should have been a draw due to the Russian losing a point. Following UFC London, here is what I think should be next for the featherweight contenders.
Movsar Evloev
Movsar Evloev has struggled to earn a title shot, as he was passed over by Diego Lopes earlier this year. So, the Russian wanted to solidify himself as the No. 1 contender with a win over Murphy.
Although Evloev got the win, whether or not he got the title shot after the controversial win is uncertain. Jean Silva could be in the running to get the next title shot, but Evloev does deserve the next crack. The Russian is undefeated and would pose some problems for Alexander Volkanovski. So, the title fight should happen sometime in the summer or fall and would be a very intriguing featherweight title fight.
Lerone Murphy
Lerone Murphy entered UFC London as the underdog, but he fought well, and many believe he should have won or gotten a draw. Yet, it was a tough defeat for the Brit, but his stock rose and still remains firmly in the featherweight title conversation, as he should only need a win or two to get a title shot.
A logical next fight for Murphy is to face the winner of Aljamain Sterling vs. Youssef Zalal. The fight would likely be a No. 1 contender fight and could headline a Fight Night card in the fall.
