Cory Sandhagen explains why he doesn’t respect Sean O’Malley’s approach to fighting

Cory Sandhagen has no respect for Sean O’Malley’s approach to fighting, and he doesn’t think the fans should either.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Sean O’Malley will compete on the UFC White House event against Aiemann Zahabi in what may be a number one contender fight.

The matchup came somewhat out of left field, however, Zahabi is riding a seven fight win streak and has earned a shot up the rankings.

Despite that, fans were disappointed that ‘Suga’ Sean won’t be fighting Cory Sandhagen, who has been calling to fight him for some time now.

Sandhagen goes in on O’Malley for not taking the toughest fights

Sandhagen’s last fight came last October when he took on Merab Dvalishvili for the bantamweight title, unfortunately losing a unanimous decision.

Since that fight, the 33-year-old has been calling for a clash against the former champion of the division, however, O’Malley has continuously claimed that he has never been offered the fight.

Despite that, Sandhagen believes O’Malley has been purposely avoiding tough fights, which he doesn’t respect and thinks the fans should feel the same way.

“It’s the only fight that makes sense for the both of us,” Sandhagen told Daniel Cormier in an interview.

“I hate the way that he answers questions all around in general and I hate the way he answers questions when he gets asked about me. Sean’s been on record for being like, ‘this is a business to me, I want to take the easiest fight for the most amount of money.’

“As a fan, I don’t think that type of character is interesting or inspiring at all.”

In his last fight, O’Malley returned to the win column after back-to-back losses against Dvalishvili with a win over Song Yadong.

Initially, ‘Suga’ was hopeful of diving straight back into a title fight against Petr Yan, but it seems as though the promotion are going with a trilogy fight between Yan and ‘The Machine’.

“I get to inspire a bunch of people because I know I took the hard road to get here, O’Malley is not like that, as a fan I can’t respect that.”
