Jiri Prochazka explains why potentially following Alex Pereira to heavyweight is a ‘really good idea’

Jiri Prochazka wants another crack at Alex Pereira.

Prochazka is 0-2 against Pereira in his UFC career, losing both by knockout. Yet, Prochazka has been adamant that he wants another crack, but with Pereira vacating his belt to move up to heavyweight, a third crack seems unlikely.

However, Jiri Prochazka said he’s keeping the door open for him moving up to heavyweight to face Alex Pereira for a third time.

“When I fought in Rizin in Japan, I fought with the heavyweight guys many times,” Prochazka said to MMAJunkie. “I can push my body to show much more strength and be able to fight with these types of guys, with these heavyweight and still be faster, more endurance, precise, all these things so it’s a really good idea for me.”

Prochazka has fought numerous times at heavyweight in RIZIN and even made the Grand Prix final, before he lost to King Mo. During the Grand Prix, he beat Vadim Nemkov and Satoshi Ishii. In total, Prochazka went 3-1 at heavyweight in RIZIN, showing he could make the move in the UFC to chase down Pereira again.

Jiri Prochazka looking to reclaim light heavyweight title

Before Prochazka can think about fighting Alex Pereira at heavyweight again, he’s set to take on Carlos Ulberg in the main event of UFC 327 for the vacant light heavyweight title.

Not only is Prochzka fighting for the belt again, but he’s expected to become a father just a few days later, which adds to

“Maybe I’m not realizing it yet, but I feel the power,” Prochazka said about becoming a dad. “Really feel something that’s in the beyond, behind the feelings, behind the emotions. There is something that is stronger than I ever, ever, ever met before. I can tell, and it’s not the reason.

“It’s really something that was here, and every time we have a call with my girlfriend every day, we are doing, like, special breathing stuff together to keep ourselves in connection, so every time I see her belly, like, I can’t explain. I can’t explain right now, but yeah.”

Prochazka enters his UFC 327 fight against Ulberg with a record of 32-5-1 and is coming off a KO win over Khalil Rountree, and before that, TKO’d Jamahal Hill.
