Ronda Rousey doubles down on UFC criticism by slamming ‘crossroads’ in MMA

UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey doubled down on her fiery remarks about her former promotion ahead of her MMA comeback.

Ronda Rousey is weeks away from her first Mixed Martial Arts fight in ten years, as she prepares to face women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano in a Most Valuable Promotions headliner. This will mark Rousey’s first fight since back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in the UFC Octagon.

Rousey’s legacy in Mixed Martial Arts is already set in stone ahead of the highly anticipated event. But Rousey’s relationship with her former promotion has become foggy in recent weeks, as demonstrated by her recent remarks.

Rousey has repeatedly taunted the UFC in recent weeks, especially ahead of the promotion’s card at the White House. The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion has repeatedly criticized UFC fighter pay and taken personal shots at matchmaker Hunter Campbell.

While Rousey made headlines in front of the cameras at the first Carano fight press conference, she hasn’t slowed down in her criticism of the UFC.

Ronda Rousey fears Mixed Martial Arts is at a ‘crossroads’ because of the UFC

In a recent video uploaded to her YouTube channel, Rousey reignited her ongoing feud against the UFC brass.

“I feel like we’re at a crossroads for the sport, and this is the beginning of a big change that is long overdue,” Rousey said.

“I meant it when I said that the UFC is suffering from a lack of competition. They’ve become too comfortable with being the dominant force in the industry, and just making fighters offers where they go, ‘Take it or leave it, what else are you going to do?’ It used to be that UFC was the best way to make money in combat sports. Now it’s becoming the worst place to make money in combat sports. It used to be anti-establishment, and now it’s become the establishment…

“Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a company woman, and was very grateful while I was there, but I feel like since they’ve taken the reins away from Dana they’ve really lost their way,” Rousey continued. “They think that they’re too big to fail, and that they can just disappoint the fans over and over, and they don’t care how many casual fans they lose.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

As of this writing, UFC CEO Dana White has yet to respond to Rousey’s public remarks about the promotion. Rousey entered the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018.
