Conor McGregor is adamant that he will fight in the UFC again soon.
McGregor has not fought since mid 2021, when he suffered a brutal leg injury in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier. It was his second straight loss to “The Diamond” after a knockout loss earlier the same year.
McGregor spent some of his subsequent time away from the cage recovering from his injury, but he has been fighting fit for some time now. Unfortunately, while he’s made many assurances about fighting again, it has yet to happen.
We seem to be closer than ever to that finally changing.
For the last few months, rumors of a McGregor comeback have been swirling, with many expecting the Irishman to compete at UFC 329 on July 11.
Speaking on Instagram over the weekend, McGregor threw gas on the fire, vowing that his return will be happening, whether his doubters and naysayers like it or not.
Conor McGregor once again promises UFC return is imminent
“Legs still sharper than a guillotine,” a confident McGregor wrote. “Training with the young wolves, sharpening the blade. The return is coming whether they like it or not.”
Prior to his two-fight series with Poirier, McGregor was riding a first-round stoppage win over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, which occurred in early 2020. Before that, his most recent fight was a 2018 submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Despite his recent losses and inactivity, McGregor remains the biggest star in MMA history. His legacy is also ironclad. The Irish star is a two-time champion in the UFC, having first claimed the featherweight belt with a knockout of Jose Aldo, and later the lightweight belt with a KO of Eddie Alvarez.
Do you think we’ll see him fight again this year?
