MICHAEL CARRICK has backed Manchester United winger Amad Diallo to bounce back from being hooked at half-time against Brentford.
Amad, 23, was subbed in Monday’s 2-1 win as interim boss Carrick switched to a back three following a poor first half.
The Ivory Coast star has scored just twice this term — and not had an assist since the November draw at Tottenham.
But Carrick said: “He’s playing well.
“There’s an awful lot more to the game, playing in a winning team like he has, than worrying about numbers. He gives the team so much.
“He’s got so much talent, so much ability — but his work ethic and his attitude is fantastic as well.

“He has played different roles at times. I’m a big fan of Amad.
“He was unfortunate that we had to change things tactically the other night and that was purely why he came off.
“He’s given the team an awful lot and it’s the underbelly of what goes into the performance.
“It’s not always what grabs the headlines that actually provides success, or what a team proves to be. That’s Amad’s part of it.”

Amad has started 24 games in the league this season, having originally been deployed mainly as a right wing-back under Ruben Amorim at the start of the season.
A call-up to Afcon with the Ivory Coast saw him miss a six-game period which saw United win just one league game and crash out of the FA Cup.
But since returning, Amad is yet to get back among the goals or assists despite playing as a more orthodox winger in many games.
Amad had come off the bench in three of the last seven league games before his below-par Brentford display.
