Rising UFC lightweight star Quillan Salkilld will face the toughest test of his career in the UFC Vegas 120 main event.
Amid a recent major change at the top of the UFC lightweight division, rising star Quillan Salkilld is knocking on the door of a potential title shot after an unbeaten five-fight run in the Octagon. Salkilld, one of Australia’s top fighters, has surged into the lightweight Top 15 after earning a UFC spot via Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024.
After knocking out Beneil Dariush at UFC Perth in May, Salkilld makes a strong case to test himself against the lightweight elite. He’s notched three consecutive stoppage wins, including a brutal head kick against Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 321 in October.
For the first time in his blossoming UFC tenure, Salkilld will fight in his first-career UFC main event against one of the division’s top contenders, albeit at the uncermonious UFC Apex.
Quillan Salkilld set to headline UFC Vegas 120 in first main event booking
The UFC announced on Thursday that Salkilld (12-1-0) will face ninth-ranked lightweight Mateusz Gamrot (26-4-1) in the UFC Vegas 120 main event on August 8th at the Apex.
Gamrot has struggled to find opponents in recent years amidst a recent run of success in the lightweight division. He most recently submitted Esteban Ribovics at UFC 327 following a short notice, second-round defeat to BMF titleholder Charles Oliveira in October.
Gamrot holds more than double the fight experience as Salkilld and has battled some of the division’s top names. He’s looking to go on his first win streak since 2024, when he defeated Rafael Dos Anjos, Rafael Fiziev, and Jalin Turner in consecutive bouts.
The full UFC Vegas 120 fight card is expected to be announced and finalized in the coming weeks.
