Alberta’s competitive iGaming market launches Monday, which means a bunch of online sportsbooks and casino betting sites can begin taking wagers with the province’s blessing. So who will be on the starting line?

Big things are happening in Alberta.

    Key Takeaways

    • Alberta’s regulated iGaming market launched Monday, opening the door for licensed online sportsbooks and casino operators to begin offering legal betting in the province.
    • Major brands including bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, theScore Bet, Caesars, BetRivers, and PointsBet are expected to be available on launch day, pending final regulatory approval.
    • Several other operators, such as DAZN Bet, Betway, and BET99, are also pursuing Alberta launches, though some may arrive after opening day.

If you’re in Alberta, the province’s new regulated iGaming market went live Monday. But what you’ll probably want to know, too, is who else is going to be there with you.

Who can I bet with? What are my options?

That, after all, is what this new market is all about: authorizing, licensing, and regulating a bunch of online sports betting and casino gaming sites in the hopes that online gambling in Alberta will largely happen where the province has control and oversight.

So which online sportsbooks and casino operators will be launching in the new Alberta sports betting and Alberta online casinos market?

The AGLC just updated its list of registered/licensed iGaming operators ahead of Monday’s launch of a competitive online gambling market in Alberta. Not much change, but I did notice that Betano is now signed up: pic.twitter.com/P2k5BHMrR4

There are no guarantees, as operators must still ensure they’ve checked all the regulatory boxes and received the green light from the province.

However, we at Covers have some answers. We’ll be updating this page as we learn more, so check back.

Slam dunk, no doubt about it

Play Alberta – The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission’s (AGLC) iGaming platform is already live in the province.

DraftKings – The Boston-based online sportsbook and casino wagering company expressed its intention to launch those products in Alberta and did so on Monday.

“With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup – hosted right here in North America – it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform,” Greg Karamitis, executive vice president and general manager of sports at DraftKings, said in a statement.

Caesars – The well-known casino brand went live with its three different brands Monday: Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online, and Horseshoe Online Casino. Like others, it launched preregistering for customers.

theScore Bet – theScore media app is something of a necessity among Canadian sports fans, and theScore Bet has already launched in one Canadian jurisdiction, Ontario. The company announced Monday morning theScore Bet Sportsbook and Casino, theScore Casino, and Hollywood Casino are up and running in Alberta.

bet365 – The major online sports betting and iGaming operator announced its official participation in Alberta’s new market Monday.

    FanDuel
    – The biggest online sportsbook and casino operator in North America, FanDuel, is officially up and running in Alberta. The company shared the first bet made on its sportsbook.

BetRivers – Another preregister-er of Alberta customers, the Rush Street Interactive iGaming brand announced its casino and sportsbook brand are live.

    Pretty sure

BetMGM/Sports Interaction – BetMGM has already begun preregistration and is already telling customers that, pending regulatory approval, it, too, will launch in Alberta on Monday.

Moreover, Sports Interaction is owned by a part-owner of BetMGM, Entain, so there is a strong possibility that SIA will join Alberta’s regulated iGaming market at the earliest possible opportunity.

PointsBet – The online sports betting and casino gaming operator was the first to begin preregistration in Alberta, so safe to say it is champing at the bit to go live Monday.

    Maybe

DAZN Bet – The online gambling arm of the sports streaming service has obtained a license in Alberta, and has said they plan to launch in the province at some point in July. You know what a day in July is? July 13.

Pure Casino – Kambi, a sportsbook technology provider, and Pure Casino Entertainment, Alberta’s biggest casino operator, have already inked a sports betting-related deal for Alberta. TBD on whether they will launch on Day 1 in the province, but the infrastructure is being put in place.

Was walking around Cowboys Casino in Calgary yesterday and I do declare that this looks like a good spot for a physical sportsbook. PowerPlay – The online sportsbook operator said it is “positioning itself to enter Alberta as soon as licensing and onboarding processes are completed.”

Bally Bet – Another company already signing up its soon-to-be customers in Alberta via the preregistration process.

Betway – The online sportsbook’s parent company, Super Group, has been keen on Alberta and has signalled it wants to be live in the province’s regulated market as soon as possible.

Tonybet – The mobile bookmaker has a website that says it is “coming to Alberta on July 13th,” which is a pretty clear sign it wants in on the ground floor of the province’s competitive iGaming market.

Coming soon, but maybe not right away

BET99 – The online sportsbook and casino site has its registration in hand from the AGLC, but TBD on when it officially joins Alberta’s regulated market.

Tooniebet – Another operator that has an Alberta sports betting license in its pocket. When we know, you’ll know.

Betano – Only recently obtained its iGaming registration, so that might signal a more gradual plan to enter Alberta. Or, it could signal nothing and Betano is ready and raring to go.
