Expect a defense battle tonight between two teams struggling for points.

Photo By – Reuters Connect. Seattle Storm center Dominique Malonga (14) shoots the ball against Minnesota Lynx t Climate Pledge Arena.

Mired in severe losing skids, the Toronto Tempo and Seattle Storm square off tonight at Climate Pledge Arena.

Toronto comes in as a 6.5-point road underdog with only two wins over its last 19 contests, while last-place Seattle has managed just one win across its previous 15 games.

Given the offensive dysfunction on both sides, our Tempo vs. Storm predictions and WNBA picks focus squarely on the game total on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

    • UPDATE: Added Dominique Malonga prop!

    Tempo vs Storm prediction

Tempo vs Storm best bet: Under 176.5 -108

The Toronto Tempo are averaging just 83.9 points over their last 15 games, which ranks third-lowest in the WNBA.

Offense will be hard to come by as they’ll be down their top three scorers again: Marina Mabrey (adductor), Brittany Sykes (foot) and Nyara Sabally (calf).

Seattle isn’t equipped to exploit Toronto’s league-worst defense, either, ranking fourth-lowest in scoring at 82.9 points while shooting just 42.8%.

The Under has cashed in both meetings this season, with neither game topping 165 points. With both offenses struggling, I see plenty of value in the 176.5 total.

I’d play the Under down to 169.5 points.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Toronto is not the only team dealing with injuries. Seattle’s Natisha Hiedeman (shoulder) has been ruled out for Wednesday. She leads the team in assists at 4.8 per game and is second in scoring at better than 15 points per contest.

    Tempo vs Storm same-game parlay

Kiki Rice has gotten extended time while the Tempo battle through the injury bug, logging at least 30 minutes in five of the last six games, but it hasn’t helped her assist totals, as she’s had fewer than six dimes in four of the last six games. Seattle doesn’t do a lot of things well, but they are Top 7 in assists allowed per game.

Let’s stick with the PGs and Flau’jae Johnson, who is coming off a 5-for-10 shooting mark from 3-point range against Dallas.

This is as much a bet on Johnson as it is on Toronto’s poor 3-point shooting defense, which allows teams to connect at a 37.1% clip over its last 15 games. The rook should get enough looks to drill a couple of moneyballs tonight.

    Tempo vs Storm SGP +625

    • Under 176.5
    • Kiki Rice Under 5.5 assists
    • Flau’jae Johnson Over 1.5 threes

Tempo vs Storm player prop pick

Dominique Malonga Over 9.5 rebounds -125

Dominique Malonga will be the best player on the court between both teams, and she should be a force down low and on the glass against a Tempo side that is third-to-last in rebounding in the WNBA. Malonga has pulled down at least 10 boards in five of her last eight games.
