The Philadelphia Eagles made two trades on Sunday, first reacquiring offensive tackle Fred Johnson from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2026 seventh-round pick, then sending reserve offensive lineman Darian Kinnard to the Green Bay Packers for a 2027 sixth-round pick. League sources confirmed the deals to The Athletic.

The Eagles were scheduled to enter the 2025 season with precarious depth on the offensive line. They attempted to backfill their swing tackle spot after Johnson’s departure in free agency by signing Matt Pryor and Kendall Lamm, but neither player’s performance in training camp suggested they’d be reliable options.

Johnson is familiar with the Eagles’ offensive system. He appeared in 34 games for them in the last two seasons, starting six games in 2024.

Kinnard, 25, was a 2022 fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs who spent last season with the Eagles. He’s been on teams that have won the past three Super Bowls, and he was developed in Philadelphia as both a guard and tackle. He started the Eagles’ Week 18 win last season when coach Nick Sirianni rested the top starters.

Kinnard spent the summer competing to be one of the top backups on the offensive line after seeing action in only two games in 2024, but he had not solidified a role coming out of the preseason. The Eagles’ offensive line depth chart was more uncertain than usual for a franchise that takes pride in building along the line of scrimmage, and general manager Howie Roseman demonstrated that the Eagles were unsettled by bringing back Johnson and recapturing some draft capital by dealing Kinnard.

With Johnson expected to be the top reserve at tackle, the question now becomes where the Eagles turn for the top reserve on the interior. Matt Pryor has started 39 games in the NFL. Brett Toth has mostly been a practice squad player in Philadelphia, although he’s taken first-team work this summer while Landon Dickerson has been sidelined with a knee injury. Trevor Keegan was a 2024 fifth-round pick who spent last year developing at the bottom of the roster. That role remains unclear. Of course, Roseman still has more than a day until cut-down day. He’s made five trades this summer. Is there another deal looming?
