Drake lost his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar about as comprehensively as any rapper has ever lost a rap battle in hip-hop history, and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James seemed to be enjoying the Team Kendrick side of things during the height of that showdown.
Drake responded by dissing James several times, though the basketball superstar said he will “always” have love for the Canadian musician.
“Always wish him the best,” James said on 360 With Speedy (15:11 mark). “Obviously… different places right now, currently. He’s doing his thing, I’m doing mine. But it’s always love for sure.”
Before Drake was thoroughly humbled by Lamar, he had James and his son Bronny on stage with him at a 2023 concert in Los Angeles and wore Bronny’s AAU jersey in the Money In The Grave music video.
James has also discussed their friendship in the past.
“There’s a lot of things that we talk about knowing Drake since 2007,” he said on The Shop back in 2018. “We’ve grown closer and closer every year and I’m proud of who he is today, not only as an artist, as a son, but as a father and he’s one of the biggest stars that we have on this planet right now. And it’s because of who he is and his hard work and dedication to his craft so it’s pretty cool.”
As for whether that friendship remains, James doesn’t seem interested in a feud, though Drake has certainly made his feelings known.
