FOOTBALL fans are no strangers to bizarre VAR calls the last few years.
But nothing could prepare anyone for what happened on Wednesday during a group game in the Russian Cup.
Zenit St Petersburg hosted Akhmat Grozny at the Gazprom Arena in what turned out to be a surprisingly memorable encounter.
Akhmat ace Nader Ghandri was sent off during the game’s final stages.
Ghandri, 30, seemed quite overwhelmed after the decision and took his shirt off.
The centre-back proceeded to throw his jersey to a visiting Grozny fan in the stands.
The Tunisia international then made his way to the dressing room for an early shower.
However, VAR intervened and called the referee to the monitor.
The ref ultimately reversed his decision and ordered the visitors’ bench to recall Ghandri.
The Tunisian ace made his way back to the touchline but was told he couldn’t play without an official shirt.

The defender went on to plead for his jersey back from the fan he handed it to.
Fortunately for him, the supporter proved to be a good sport as he immediately returned the player’s top.
Ghandri scored for Akhmat but Zenit prevailed with a score of 2-1 in St Petersburg.
