UFC fighters tend to form a bond after they go the 15-minute distance – but this pair of undercard competitors took it one step further.
11 years ago, Drew Dober travelled to Berlin to face home fighter Nick Hein in his sophomore octagon outing after losing at that year’s finale for The Ultimate Fighter. The pair battered each other over 15 minutes in a bloody war, but the German got the nod.
However, as the pair partied after the fact, Dober met Hein’s sister at an after-party. Within a year the pair were engaged and while they have since parted ways, they did end up getting married, marking an ultimate victory for the American.

Drew Dober married his UFC rival’s sister after pair shared bloody battle
After their meeting at the UFC Fight Night in Berlin, Dober and Hein went to an after party together where the American met his rival’s family. This included his sister Gloria, with whom he shared a whirlwind romance before getting engaged the following year.
“I fought in Germany,” Dober told Against The Fence in a clip resurfaced by Home of Fight this evening. “I fought a man named Nick Hein. Unfortunately, I lost but I disagreed with the decision. But whatever.
“We want to post fight party of Nick Hein, ’cause we were in Germany why not celebrate with the Germans, right? Met his family, was introduced to his sister and I married his sister. Did you guys know that? I married my opponent’s sister.”
Dober has since remarried, and declared on the stream that “round two is far better than round one, I’m on round two as far as marriage goes.”
