CHELSEA defender Wesley Fofana was forced off just 32 minutes after coming on against Atalanta.

Fofana, 24, has had a torrid time with injuries since making the move to Stamford Bridge in 2022 – and his nightmare shows no signs of relenting.

Fofana suffered a nasty eye injury during Chelsea’s Champions League loss at Atalanta

The centre-back, who came on after half-time, took a stray boot to the eye from Atalanta goalscorer Gianluca Scamacca during the Blues’ 2-1 loss in the Champions League.

The two players went for the ball but tripped and Scamacca landed awkwardly on the France international.

And the striker’s boot accidentally made contact with Fofana‘s face and hit him on his right eye.

The defender needed quite a bit of time to get back up to his feet as he was in evident pain.

The ex-Leicester star tried to shake it off but the physios couldn’t help him enough to complete the match.

Fofana’s eye appeared bruised and he looked unable to keep it open.

As his eye continued to close up, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca decided to replace him with Tosin Adarabioyo on 77 minutes.

Fans were left gutted as they took to social media after Fofana’s injury hell continued following some serious problems with his knee and hamstring as well as a concussion.

One supporter tweeted: “I have never seen a player get more unfortunate injuries than Fofana.”

Another commented: “Who cursed my defender?”

    A third wrote: “So unlucky.”

This fan said: “I feel so gutted for Fofana.”

And that one wished: “Get well soon.”

Chelsea boss Maresca revealed Fofana’s injury was “quite bad” but confirmed he will be available for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian tactician said: “It’s quite bad. He’s struggling to see a little. Hopefully he can be available for Everton on Saturday.”
