Yoel Romero finally showed signs of slowing down on Saturday when he competed at Real American Freestyle 5.
On December 20, former UFC middleweight star Yoel Romero competed in Real American Freestyle for the first time when he beat Pat Downey, winning the interim light heavyweight title.
With his win, the 48-year-old earned himself a shot at the light heavyweight champion and current UFC star Bo Nickal, and their unification fight was set to go down this past Saturday at RAF 05.
Despite that, Romero was stripped of his title just hours before their match after missing weight, which left Nickal without an opponent altogether and he was unable to compete.
Romero, though, fortunately remained on the card after another fight fell through due to a weight miss.
How high is Bo Nickal’s ceiling in MMA? 🤔
Romero ‘shows signs of being human’ after being dominated in wrestling match
After falling out of his fight against Nickal, Romero was matched up against Stephen Buchanan.
And despite Romero having showcased his dominance on the mats previously, this time around, the ‘Soldier of God’ was on the receiving end of being dominated.
Buchanan went on to score a 10-0 flawless win, putting a dent in the promotion’s plans of Romero fighting for the title, again.
“You can tell Yoel didn’t give a f—,” one fan reacted to his loss.
“Wasn’t expecting that. Figured Yoel was juicing these days and strong as hell,” another fan speculated.
“Yoel is way too old to still be competing,” a third fan said.
Romero is scheduled to re-enter the BKFC ring on February 7 when he takes on Lorenzo Hunt in the co-main event of Knuckle Mania 6.
“Yoel is finally showing signs of being human,” another fan commented.
“Bo is dumb for not taking this. 0 stakes on this wrestling match and he pulls out because a 50-year-old man couldn’t make weight. Fans already don’t like him and he wonders why and it’s this type of stuff,” said another fan.
Nickal took to social media after Romero missed weight and admitted that he decided not to take on Romero, even at a catchweight, because of the 7lb miss.

Should Romero completely retire from combat sports?
Up until this point, the 48-year-old has looked extremely successful in his post-UFC career, however, at his age now, fans believe now could be his time to retire.
Despite that, he will now turn his attention to his BKFC fight on February 7, in what could be one of his final combat sports outings.
