UFC CEO Dana White addressed the latest MMA rumors surrounding a potential Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal fight at the White House.
We’re months away from the UFC’s planned event at the White House, and the latest rumored fight for the card might be its wildest yet.
It’s been rumored in recent days that a matchup between former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor and former BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal was in the mix to headline the White House card. This came after Masvidal hinted at a looming announcement in several interviews and refused to dismiss the idea of fighting McGregor at the event.
McGregor hasn’t fought since injuring his leg against Masvidal’s longtime teammate, Dustin Poirier, at UFC 264. Masvidal retired following a loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287.
The recent rumors created a lot of excitement for fight fans. Despite the chaos on social media, UFC CEO Dana White recently weighed in on the rumors and shut them down brutally.
Dana White: Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal is ‘goofy s—‘
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, White addressed the recent rumors surrounding Masvidal, McGregor, and a potential fight at the White House.
“In my algorithm on Instagram, I don’t have anything MMA related,” White said.
“I don’t listen to any of the goofy s— that goes on. That’s [McGregor vs. Masvidal] goofy s—.”
McGregor and Masvidal were first linked to a potential fight after UFC 244, following Masvidal’s BMF title win over Nate Diaz. McGregor returned to the Octagon at UFC 246, defeating Donald Cerrone by first-round knockout in a welterweight bout.
White has repeatedly teased having McGregor return on the upcoming White House card, potentially against Michael Chandler. As of this writing, it’s uncertain if Masvidal has a fight lined up for this year.
White is expected to finalize and announce the matchups for the White House card in either April or May, ahead of the June event.
