The NFL will hold regular-season games in Mexico City over the next three seasons, the league announced Monday.

The teams involved in the games have yet to be determined, but the San Francisco 49ers could be one of them in 2026. In an interview on Monday, 49ers owner Jed York said his team would “most likely give up a home game this season to play abroad, and Mexico is always No. 1 on my list.”

The games will be held in Estadio Banorte, starting this season. The facility is home to Mexico’s national soccer team and Club América.

“We’re heading back to Mexico City in December, which I think is wonderful for our fans in Mexico,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday in Santa Clara, Calif., the site of Super Bowl 60 this Sunday. “They’re redoing the stadium for the World Cup. This will be a chance for us to get back there this December. We can’t wait for that either.”

The NFL last held a game at Estadio Banorte in 2022, and also had four previous games there in 2005, 2016, 2017 and 2019.

“We are delighted to bring regular‑season NFL games back to Mexico City beginning in 2026, reaffirming our deep and long‑standing connection with fans across the country,” said NFL Mexico Director General Arturo Olivé. “Estadio Banorte has hosted some incredibly memorable moments in our international history, and returning here underscores our commitment to growing the sport at every level in the market.”

The NFL also said it has extended its broadcast partnership with TelevisaUnivision, an official media partner for the last 60 years, to increase fan access to live games and grow the sport’s popularity in Mexico.

The league will play nine games in international venues next season — the most ever for the league — including Australia, Brazil, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, France and Mexico.
