Things are about to get very serious about the biggest event of the year.

There has been a lot of talk in recent months about who will or won’t get a spot on the UFC White House card in June.

While there are some exceptions to this rule, a lot of fighters seem at least interested in the idea due to the one-of-a-kind nature of this landmark event.

Some names, such as the returning Ilia Topuria, seem like obvious candidates to compete on the White House lawn for various reasons.

These are the exact kinds of conversations that the matchmakers will be having on February 10th.

Dana White provides an update on the UFC White House matchmaking process

The debate of whether Jon Jones will come out of retirement to fight on the UFC White House card is just one of many questions that have been tied to this particular event.

Given the magnitude of it, and how many top names will likely want a spot on the card, putting fights together isn’t likely to be an easy task for the UFC.

A comment from Dana White on social media has revealed that today is the day that they will start to go through the process of picking matchups.

There have been a lot of theories and misleading posts about which stars on the roster will or won’t be stepping inside the Octagon on the White House lawn.

Underneath an Instagram post that claimed Conor McGregor is going to face Colby Covington, White wrote yesterday, “White House matchmaking meeting is tomorrow. Mick Maynard flying in tomorrow for it. We will have fights dialed in by this weekend.”

Dana White and the matchmakers have a tougher job following a recent update

Donald Trump had left some fans doubtful when he spoke about the idea of eight or nine title fights taking place at the UFC White House event.

While it wouldn’t have been easy for the promotion to deliver this, it would’ve made it pretty obvious which matchups they could and couldn’t book.

However UFC’s executive chairman, Ari Emanuel, recently said that there will only be six or seven fights on the entire card, not mentioning whether they’ll all be title bouts.

Less fights to book may sound like an easier assignment but choosing which fighters to showcase and which ones to deny this opportunity won’t be easy.
