FORT MYERS, Fla. – Roman Anthony is about to add another accolade to his young career.

Anthony will play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, a team source confirmed, as long as he passes a scheduled physical Saturday.

Team USA had an opening on its roster after Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll broke the hamate bone in his right hand this week. Should he pass the physical, Anthony will join a Team USA outfield that includes the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge, the Chicago Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Minnesota Twins’ Byron Buxton.

The Boston Globe first reported the news.

If Anthony were to join the Team USA roster, its lineup could look like this:

The 21-year-old Anthony finished last season third in American League Rookie of the Year voting after hitting .292 with 18 doubles, eight homers and an .859 OPS, good enough for 3.1 bWAR in 71 games.

Anthony’s terrific rookie season ended with injury when he strained his left oblique on a swing on Sept. 2, forcing him to miss the postseason. After a healthy offseason, Anthony is a full-go in Red Sox camp and reported well ahead of the official date for position players.

Team USA will play its first exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants on March 3. It’s not yet known when Anthony will leave Red Sox camp to head for Team USA.

Anthony will join reliever Garrett Whitlock on the Team USA roster, but the Red Sox will be sending 10 other players to the WBC, including all five of their outfielders. Among the Red Sox headed to the WBC: Ceddanne Rafaela (Netherlands); Jarren Duran (Mexico); Brayan Bello (Dominican Republic); Masataka Yoshida (Japan); Greg Weissert (Italy); Jovani Moran (Puerto Rico); Nate Eaton (Great Britain); and Wilyer Abreu, Willson Contreras and Ranger Suarez (Venezuela).
