Ryan Garcia has set July 2026 as his return target and has publicly placed both Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney at the center of the conversation.
Rather than hint at options, Garcia has outlined conditions, timelines, and expectations in the open, keeping a title fight and a rivalry rematch alive at the same time.
Garcia Calls Out Stevenson And Sets Terms
Garcia first turned his attention to Stevenson, making it clear he did not want the fight framed as a catchweight.
“Forget the catchweight stuff. Let’s do it for real. I want to take your belt and snatch it right off you.”
He then addressed concerns about competing at 140 pounds and outlined his position on rehydration clauses and testing.
“To those that are worried about the 140-pound weight, I will tell you this: it was my plan to be able to also win at 140. As long as there’s no rehydration clause, things will be going forward.
“Testing is always included. I’ve never shied away from that. For Shakur to assume I’m on steroids, that is defamation. So I would advise you to refrain. I know you are deep down scared — and you should have fear.
“I’m coming for you. – Summer Nights and Summer Fights (in) July.”
Garcia has drawn a firm line: no rehydration clause, testing included, and a full-weight fight under standard conditions.
Haney Rematch Pressure Applied Publicly
Garcia’s posts then shifted squarely toward Haney, applying pressure in public rather than behind closed doors.
“Fans, if you really want this Haney fight next, demand it. With everything, I’ll do it next — but I need the intensity.”
He added, “Haney, if it’s time to end you, it’s time. You will be erased. I heard you speak my name. If this is what you want, let’s start the discussions. Mark my words, you’ll never fight again after this, so let that sink in and accept it before you say yes.”
Rolly Enters The Mix
However, the situation expanded when Rolando “Rolly” Romero entered the conversation and turned his attention to Haney instead.
“You say ‘sign the contract’ more than anyone in boxing. Stop acting like anyone is ducking you. My manager reached out to your dad. Sign the contract.”
That claim was followed by Haney confirming contact had already taken place. “My father spoke with Luis (Rolly’s manager). Rumors are true. Let’s see if we can get this done.”
That exchange alters the landscape. While Garcia is pushing for July, Haney now has active discussions elsewhere, Stevenson remains the title route, and Romero is pressing hard for a contract. The lightweight division is no longer moving in a single direction.
If Haney–Romero negotiations accelerate, the July timetable Garcia set may begin moving without him.
