David Benavidez isn’t done targeting a mega showdown with Canelo Alvarez.

Benavidez moved up to the cruiserweight division to challenge Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez for the WBA and WBO titles this past Saturday in Las Vegas. While Benavidez was a sizable betting favorite, he still managed to dazzle boxing purists. Benavidez damaged the right eye of Ramirez to the point where “Zurdo” was constantly forced to take a knee. Benavidez scored the knockout in the sixth round.

After the fight, Jim Gray asked Benavidez what he wants next. “The Mexican Monster” made it clear that he remains interested in a clash with Alvarez (via MMAFighting).

“I just want to give the fans what they want to see,” Benavidez said. “I’ve seen Canelo in the building. Let me just ask the fans this: Do you guys want to see Canelo vs. David Benavidez? [Crowd roars approval] Enough said. We can’t leave that fight on the table. I have respect for Canelo, who is a great champion, but I’m a great champion, too. Let’s do it! …

“I’m still champion at 175. I’m champion at 200 and 175. So, if they want to come get it at 175, let’s get it at 175!”

Alvarez was inside the T-Mobile Arena prior to Benavidez’s fight with “Zurdo.” Alvarez was supporting his teammate and former opponent Jaime Munguia, who captured the WBA super-middleweight title from Armando Resendiz via unanimous decision.

Mike Coppinger recently reported that Alvarez is set to challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight title in September. Benavidez dismissed the fight during a media day session prior to his cruiserweight title win. He questioned who actually wants to watch Alvarez vs. Mbilli.

Do you think we’ll ever get to see David Benavidez vs. Canelo Alvarez? If so, who would you put your money on? Sound off in the comments below.
