The top-seeded Minnesota Lynx seek their league-best 14th road win of the year as they visit the expansion Portland Fire.
The Fire need to get hot to catch the last playoff berth, starting the day 5.5 games back of the eighth-seeded Dallas Wings.
Sportsbooks don’t see the spark starting here, as Portland finds itself as a steep 12.5-point home underdog.
But my Lynx vs. Fire predictions and WNBA picks will shift to the total, where Portland’s potent offense will help clear the Over on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The Portland Fire have been an offensive dynamo during their homestand, which ends tonight against the Minnesota Lynx.
They are averaging 99 points over four games, which ranks first in the WNBA during that span. The problem is the defense ranks 13th at 91.8 points allowed.
Minnesota will exploit that weakness, as the Lynx are averaging 92.9 points while leading the league in 3-point shooting at 39.6%.
The Lynx have also scored 101+ in both meetings this season. With Portland’s offense currently firing, Minnesota should contribute enough to keep this matchup flying Over, which I’d play up to 187.5 points.

Kayla McBride is coming off a 43-point bomb in a win over Dallas, and that 15.5-point line is gettable tonight. It’s a number McBride has topped in 13 of her last 17 games, including a 24-point effort against the Fire.
Canadian Bridget Carleton has the same scoring line for Portland, and she’s been on her own big-time run, leading the Fire in scoring in three of the last four games, while scoring at least 16 points in five of seven.
