Andreas Hale is a combat sports reporter at ESPN. Andreas covers MMA, boxing and pro wrestling. In Andreas’ free time, he plays video games, obsesses over music and is a White Sox and 49ers fan. He is also a host for Sirius XM’s Fight Nation. Before joining ESPN, Andreas was a senior writer at DAZN and Sporting News. He started his career as a music journalist for outlets including HipHopDX, The Grammys and Jay-Z’s Life+Times. He is also an NAACP Image Award-nominated filmmaker as a producer for the animated short film “Bridges” in 2024.

Shakur Stevenson showed the world that he can be an exciting fighter when he decides to, delivering a stellar performance with a wide unanimous decision win over previously undefeated William Zepeda in New York on Saturday. Stevenson’s brilliant performance, coupled with Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. back in March, sees the two fighters swap spots in this week’s divisional rankings, with Stevenson taking his place at the top of the lightweight mountain.

The junior welterweight division had a significant shakeup with Subriel Matias pounding his way into becoming the WBC champion with a majority decision over Alberto Puello. Matias faded late but held on to win and jumps to the No. 4 slot. Considering that Liam Paro defeated Matias by a decent margin last year and his only loss is to the No. 2-ranked Richardson Hitchins, Paro benefits the most from Matias’ win as he leaps into the No. 3 spot. Puello slides from No. 3 to No. 5.

Hamzah Sheeraz’s pummeling of Edgar Berlanga sees the British fighter make his debut at super middleweight at No. 4. Berlanga suffered his second loss, first by knockout, and drops to No. 6. By moving up to super midldeweight, Sheeraz relinquishes his No. 3 spot at middleweight, opening the door for Troy Isley to make his top 10 debut at 160 pounds.

On the same card, David Morrell Jr. survived a knockdown to earn a controversial decision over Imam Khaetev. Although he won, Morrell falls from No. 4 to No. 5 at light heavyweight due to his performance while Khaetev’s competitive loss sees him crack into the rankings at No. 6.

ESPN’s divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven’t competed in the past 12 months — and don’t have a fight scheduled — will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.
