Canada’s Kim Clavel (22-2, 3 KOs) became a two-division world champion on Saturday by outpointing Sol Cudos (10-1-2, 3 KOs) to take a unanimous decision and the IBF women’s strawweight title.

Clavel accomplished the feat in front of her hometown at the Theatre St-Denis in Montreal with scores of 99-91, 99-91 and 98-92. Her combination punching and handspeed separated her from her opponent as she got the better of their numerous exchanges throughout the entertaining fight. Clavel moves up two spots to No. 3 in the women’s strawweight division while Cudos drops one place to No. 4.

Two-time Canadian Olympian Tamm Thibeault (4-0, 3 KOs) wiped out Cristina Mazzotta with a first round TKO in her first professional fight in her home province. Thibeault, the IBF and WBA No. 1 contender, moved up a spot to No. 2 in the middleweight rankings and is a star in the making.

Rankings are updated every Tuesday. They’re based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven’t fought in 18 months and don’t have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
