Sydney Sweeney has been offered training for her prospective fighting debut by one of the greatest women’s boxers of all time.
The Hollywood A-lister this weekend debuted her new biopic Christy, where she plays boxing icon Christy Martin. She had to pile on 35lb for the role and take on months of training including hard sparring.
And after falling in love with the sport, Sweeney has opened up about her ambitions to take part in an actual charity fight. Now, she is being offered coaching by the two-time Olympic gold medallist and multiple-weight undisputed champion Claressa Shields.

Claressa Shields offers Sydney Sweeney coaching for boxing debut
If Sydney Sweeney is serious about wanting to fight, there’s nobody better qualified she could train with than the ‘GWOAT’ Claressa Shields. She is a multiple-weight world champion in the pros after undoubtedly the greatest amateur career of any female fighter in history.
“If she needs some help training, girl, call me! I’ll give you some GWOAT tips,” Shields told TMZ Sports over the weekend. “I think every woman should get into a fight just once and if she’s playing Christy Martin and had a MMA background in her younger years then why not?”
Asked what tips specifically she would give, Shields noted that “the jab is the most powerful punch in boxing, and anybody that’s stronger than you, hit ’em in the stomach and then they’re weaker, that’s my advice. We all can take a punch if we get hit by the wrong person!”
Sydney Sweeney opens up about plans to box after Christy movie
Last week, Sweeney made headlines the world over when she told SportsCasting that she had fallen so in love with fighting during training camp for the film that she wanted to box for real.
“There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, ‘Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?’” she explained. “Christy said she’d sign me up. So, this isn’t as hypothetical as you actually think it is.

“Yeah, I’d totally do a charity bout, that’d be so sick. I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn’t quit.”
Asked about a potential opponent, she stayed coy. “Who would I fight? It’s a surprise,” she teased. “You’ll have to wait. I’m serious. You’ve got to stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you’ll see it.”
