Every week the First Look article gives you a taste of the slate and some of the more intriguing salaries that DraftKings releases. The goal is to identify early-week cash game considerations, as well as potential tournament plays before we piece together the stacking options. On Tuesdays, I share some of these insights on the Fantasy Footballers DFS & Betting Podcast if you want further commentary on some of the salary standouts.
Check back later in the week when Matthew Betz and I share our official DraftKings and FanDuel picks for cash and GPPs exclusively in the DFS Pass.
Overview
Here are the games for this week’s main slate* including implied team totals (TIP) for each matchup.
There are a number of ways to play this slate for DFS depending on your preference:
- 2-game Saturday only
- 3-game Sunday only
- 6 game slate includes Monday
- MNF Showdown
We will preview all of the salaries here besides the MNF showdown format, which will be previewed later this weekend by Chris Cash as part of the DFS Pass.
I’ve also added a glossary of metrics at the bottom if you want a quick refresher or definition of some of the statistics used below.
Quarterbacks
High-Priced Studs: Josh Allen ($7000) is incredibly cheap considering we were paying $8200(!) last year at this time despite averaging relatively the same fantasy points per drop back. Matthew Stafford ($6900) finished the year with 4707 & 46 passing TDs at age 37. As a 10.5-point favorite, he remains cheap albeit without any rushing production.
Points per $ Cash Guys: Trevor Lawrence ($6100) joined Josh Allen (2023) as the only QBs in NFL history with 4000+ passing yards, 29+ passing TDs, 9+ rushing TDs in the same season. He looks like the easiest click of the week along with a way too cheap Jalen Hurts ($6300) against the soft front of the 49ers.
GPP Intrigue: I love the dynamic between Drake Maye ($6800) and Justin Herbert ($5800). Herbert actually paces those two in rushing yards per game while Maye’s insane downfield stats are out of the this world. It is surely a worthy opponent as Los Angeles ranks 7th in EPA per pass attempt and #1 in defending intermediate area (11-19 yards) passing.
Cheapies: Bryce Young ($5000) was the QB6 on the week last time the Rams came to Carolina in Week 12. He completed 75% of his passes, threw 3 TDs, and ran for 23 yards.
