NBA fans are partying like it’s 1999 as the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals, a rematch of the title bout 27 years ago. And in Game 1 on Wednesday night, the Knicks overcame a 14-point third-quarter deficit and stunned the Spurs 105-95 in San Antonio to take a 1-0 series lead.
The Knicks, now winners of 12 straight, were well-rested after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. They have not lost since Game 3 of their first-round series vs. the Atlanta Hawks on April 23. The Spurs, meanwhile, needed seven games to knock out the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.Â
Now the Spurs have to respond heading into Game 2 on Friday night before the series shifts back to New York City and Madison Square Garden. The last NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden was Game 5 in 1999, which came on June 25. When the Knicks host Game 3, it will be the first Finals game at MSG in 9,845 days.
Here’s a look at the NBA Finals schedule, with a potential Game 7 on June 19.
