3 Tight Ends to Avoid (2025 Fantasy Football)

The tight end position is notorious for being quite difficult to peg after the first handful of selections. Players like Brock Bowers, George Kittle and Trey McBride set themselves apart from the rest. After that, it can be a bit of a head-scratcher. To make the selection process easier, if you miss out on those top players, I have three tight ends below who you should completely avoid in fantasy football drafts.

Tight End Busts to Avoid: Overvalued Fantasy Football Picks

    Kyle Pitts (TE – ATL)

Kyle Pitts has consistently been a guy who’s loaded with talent, but the fantasy production hasn’t ever come. Last season, Pitts caught 47 passes for 602 yards and four touchdowns. His four touchdowns were a single-season high. However, the yardage, catches and targets were down from the previous year.

Those figures were already quite low, with 53 catches for 667 yards and three touchdowns. In 2024, Pitts averaged eight points per game, which ranked as the TE18. He finished with single-digit points in 10 games from Weeks 1 to 17. Pitts had just two games with more than 15 points.

With Michael Penix Jr. in his first full season with other weapons like Drake London, Darnell Mooney and do-it-all running back Bijan Robinson, Pitts may be in for another tough season. Save yourself the heartbreak.

    Cole Kmet (TE – CHI)

Cole Kmet is going quite late in drafts at TE30, but even still, I’m not even taking a risk with a late-round pick on him. In 2024, Kmet caught 47 passes on 55 targets for 474 yards and four touchdowns.

This was a far cry from his 73 catches for 719 yards and six touchdowns in 2023. Additionally, the Bears have a new coaching staff led by Ben Johnson. With the first draft pick as part of his new regime, he selected Colston Loveland, a tight end from Michigan.

Kmet’s days as a decent pass-catching weapon for the Bears appear over.

    Dallas Goedert (TE – PHI)

Being part of a Super Bowl-winning team will certainly draw some interest from prospective fantasy owners, but Dallas Goedert’s production has been going down year after year. Last season, Goedert caught 42 passes on 52 targets for 496 yards and two touchdowns.

Since 2021, look at these plunging stat lines:

    • 2021: 76 targets, 56 receptions, 830 yards, four touchdowns
    • 2022: 69 targets, 55 receptions, 702 yards, three touchdowns
    • 2023: 83 targets, 59 receptions, 592 yards, three touchdowns

Goedert was fairly consistent with around 55 receptions, but that number dipped significantly in 2024. Yes, he missed seven games last season, but that’s also been a consistent theme for Goedert, as he misses a lot of time. He’s played in 12 games or fewer in three of the last five seasons. The two seasons he played more games in were 2023 (14 games) and 2021 (15).

The Eagles remain largely the same as in 2024, with quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receivers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, and running back Saquon Barkley.

Goedert is going as the TE15, but I’m still avoiding him in fantasy drafts. There’s very little upside for an oft-injured commodity.
