Footage is doing the rounds on social media of the self-professed former 19-0, 19 KO’s ‘heavyweight GOAT’ taking a first-round knee for the count.
Christopher Lovejoy’s latest defeat has once again exposed the myth behind his status with hard evidence posted by rival Shannon Briggs.
Andrew Satterfield (9-8-1, 6 KOs) stopped the 41-year-old American inside a round after taking a knee from a shot that didn’t appear to land flush. The sequence was captured and posted online by Briggs, who wasted no time tearing into Lovejoy for quitting under minimal pressure.
The Myth of a Heavyweight GOAT
Briggs, the former heavyweight champion and master of viral soundbites, ridiculed Lovejoy after sharing the footage with his trademark “Let’s go champ” banter.
It added fuel to a long-running back-and-forth between the pair, but once again highlighted that Lovejoy has done little in the ring to validate his bravado.
Once paraded with an inflated 19-0, 19 KOs record built entirely in Mexico against opponents with heavily losing records, Lovejoy’s aura has collapsed against legitimate competition.
His reputation as a knockout artist was manufactured on paper and has since crumbled when tested by even modestly credible opposition.
Once linked to facing Dave Allen and eventually exposed by Mahmoud Charr, Lovejoy seems to be chasing Briggs for a final payday.
However, the hard facts of his latest loss, when he crumpled to a knee from a glancing blow, drew nothing but ridicule from Briggs and across the boxing community.
Many fans labelled it further proof that Lovejoy’s credentials were always smoke and mirrors.
A Payday Fight with Briggs?
Despite calling out recognizable names and branding himself as avoided, Lovejoy’s résumé has yet to include a single meaningful victory. His conditioning, training pedigree, and desire have all come into question, leaving his credibility in tatters.
Briggs, sensing opportunity, continues to use Lovejoy’s name as part of his social media crusade.
Whether their ongoing feud results in a ring meeting remains uncertain. For now, Lovejoy has become the butt of the joke rather than the feared puncher he once portrayed himself to be.
