PEP GUARDIOLA has told his old assistant Carles Planchart he has no interest in taking a break until at least 2035.

Manchester City boss Pep, 54, feels he still has “unfinished business” at the Etihad, despite winning a whopping 18 trophies

And, as he approaches ten years in the job, the Spaniard joked that he might do ANOTHER ten years before putting his feet up.

Planchart, who spent 18 years with Pep at City, Bayern and Barcelona before leaving in the summer, gave an interview in Spain recently saying Guardiola needs a breather to “regenerate” and then look for a new project.

But the City boss said: “He’s right . . . but in 2035 I will start to think about it!

“In life you can have a new project constantly but when you do the same for decades or years it’s completely different.

“It comes naturally, when the club, the players and manager feels it. We are not the same as when we started 30 or 20 or ten years ago. When it happens, it will be in a natural way.

“The relationship I have with the chairman is so close and we are incredibly honest when we feel this moment to make another step, for the club, for everyone.

“Not just about me, how many backroom staff or my assistant coaches that left. It’s normal.

“Everyone has their own desires and wishes and it’s normal. Now I am still here in front of you.

“I see things that we are doing things much better than last  season and every game we are  better and better.

“That gives me the energy that it is not job done, it is unfinished business and that is why I am here.”

Guardiola only signed a new deal 11 months ago so is still under contract until summer 2027.

He has always said he will know when the time is right to step aside but right now feels energised by the revamp of his squad.

Pep added: “We changed a lot in before but especially the last time and still the energy that my staff brings me and the new players.

“I had the feeling in Barcelona, I had the feeling in Munich and now here that if I am a problem I will step aside.

“I still have the feeling I have the energy to help the players be better than last season. This is my target.”

City lost two of their first three Premier League games but face Everton today on a run of seven without defeat.

Guardiola said: “Before the international break we were far away from the top of the league and now we are closer.

“We want to arrive in competitions being close. I see things that we are doing much better than last season and every game we are better and better.”
