Harry Maguire hit with FA charge after Man United red card

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been hit with an FA charge following his red card against Bournemouth.

Maguire has been charged with “improper conduct” relating to alleged behaviour towards fourth official Matt Donohue.

The England centre-back was dismissed by referee Stuart Attwell in the second half for the challenge which gave Junior Kroupi the chance to equalise from the penalty spot as Bournemouth salvaged a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

A FA statement issued on Wednesday read: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20.

“It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.”

Maguire is set to serve an automatic one-match ban for the red card when Leeds United visit Old Trafford on April 13.

United are hopeful of having Lisandro Martínez back from injury to partner Leny Yoro in the centre of defence.

Matthijs de Ligt, who has been sidelined with a back injury since November, is still out.
