A FOOTBALL fan told a jury he threw a “defensive, left one-punch shot” during a night out in which a man was killed.
Lewis MacLeod, 36, said he was “scared and terrified” when he hit Michael Edwards, 43, outside a shop in Southwark, South London.
Mr Edwards and pal James Roberts had allegedly followed MacLeod and his friend David Jackson after an incident outside a bar.
MacLeod, who was in London to see Sunderland play Crystal Palace last September 13, told Inner London crown court he thought he was about to be attacked when he lashed out.
MacLeod said: “It all happened fast because his friend punched me straight away but I was trying to defend myself.
“I fractured my eye socket and I was on the floor. I was hazy, dazed and hurt.”

He added “I should not have. I accept I was in the wrong.”
Mr Edwards, from Warwickshire, was knocked backwards and hit his head on the pavement.
He died in hospital four days later.
MacLeod, from Sunderland, denies manslaughter.
